Fehérkő Castle

On the top of the castle hill overlooking Kereki the ruins of a once possibly whitewashed building can be found that has been guarding the area since the 14th century. The particularity of Fehérkő (meaning White Stone in Hungarian) is that, unlike most Hungarian castles, bricks were used for the original building, as not much stone was to be found in the area. The site of the castle, destroyed in times of Turkish occupation of Hungary but depicted in several illustrations, was partially explored and its ruins were reinforced and complemented.
