The Festetics castle in Dég is an important classicist ensemble in Hungary, and also one of our earliest classicist castles. The central part, the portico is very similar to that of the National Museum in Budapest. Of course, the similarity is no accident, as both - and the orangery belonging to the castle - were designed by Mihály Pollack. In front of the castle lays one of the largest English parks in Hungary, which is as big as the Central Park in New York City. Ancient trees and plant rarities can be seen in the park. The castle and the picturesque English park are popular filming locations. Among other things, several episodes of the Hungarian adventure film Kincsem were filmed here.
